Trends from Chicago Market

We went to the National Bridal Market—Here’s What’s Trending

Peplums

Ok, we’re coming in hot with this one, and you may have to hold your big sister’s hand. Millennials are a bit traumatized by the peplum trend, but these aren’t your auntie’s peplums (or your big sister’s, for that matter). Designers have put a cool new twist on this historic pattern, and, to be honest, we’re so into it!

A Touch of Black

We’ve been seeing this on the runways for a while now, and it seems like this trend is here to stay. But what was unique about this season is that designers are leaning into two-tone, black and white looks, rather than simply all-black. If you’re on the fence about trying this trend yourself, ease into it with a black ribbon accent or black opera gloves.

Suiting Details

Can’t choose between a bridal suit or a dress? Well, now you don’t have to! We’re seeing suiting details like buttons, tailored fits, and, of course, pockets popping up left and right. And, a lot of them are separates. Take this one, above. Imagine the bodice paired with a full tulle skirt for the ceremony, this slinky mermaid skirt for the reception, and some chic wide-leg pants for your big exit. Literally, three completely different looks in one!

Sumptuous Draping

From exaggerated pickups to voluminous sleeves, designers are playing with the fabric and creating shapes beyond the standard silhouette. For this reason, we’re seeing less fitted mermaid looks (although there still are plenty of those) and more A-line and ballgown designs.

Brocades

There’s something about this dress that catches the eye and makes you want to linger a little longer. It’s that subtle texture that’s literally woven throughout, and it’s called—brocade. Brocades come in all shapes, motifs, and styles—from drapey charmeuse-like fabrics to structured satin like this. We saw it all on the runways this season and we can’t wait to see them on you! It’s giving major Marie Antoinette vibes.

Gloves

Opera gloves are still very much a thing, and we’re not mad about it! These above-the-elbow baddies add an aura of elegance to any look. And we love that they can completely change up a look, whether you’re thinking of wearing them for the ceremony or reception. And don’t be afraid to play with color!

All Over Lace

And for all of our princess brides out there, lace is having a major moment. From full lace bodices that climb up the neck to long lace sleeves, every inch of these gowns is lace on lace, on more lace. Decadence at its finest. And this season, we saw so much more than just Chantilly! Laser cut and embroidered lace were everywhere and the bold motifs make such a statement and have a distinctly modern and preppy vibe
